A mile doesn't seem like much does it? That's what they say to encourage people to do the Sport Relief Mile, to raise money for charities to support people in the UK and abroad. And, to an extent, they're right - a mile doesn't seem like much, it's a bit more than walking into town and back from home. But if, like me, you haven't walked without crutches for eighteen months, just contemplating moving a mile without them seems quite daunting.
However, that is exactly what I am going to do on Sunday 24 June at RNOH Stanmore. Every year an event called the Buttercup Walk is held in the grounds of the hospital to raise money for improving facilities and patient care. Since its inception in 2003, more than £250,000 has been raised and with this year being the 10th anniversary, this should be a good one!
I'm really looking forward to doing the mile because it's an important milestone (ho ho) in my rehabilitation - I've even declined a family holiday to France in order to take part! I have set up a fundraising page on JustGiving, so if you're reading this and want to sponsor me, please do!
