Last clinic's letter
Letter came a while ago but I forgot to type it up yet.
He wants to get the frame off, in short. I'm not convinced he'll take the whole thing off but I guess that's a possibility.
I reviewed Ms F in clinic today. Walking well but has had a few pin site infections especially the calcaneal half pin. The leg otherwise looks very good. The X-rays today suggests [sic] that the distal tibia has fused to the top of the talus. The regenerate even though it has improved in comparison to the x-ray taken in May is still not consolidated fully enough to make me confident to remove the frame itself. We had briefly discussed the concept of removal of the foot frame which I think is a possibility but due to bed constraints the next available admission date is not until September.
Therefore the plan is to review Ms F in 4 weeks time on 7th September with a new x-ray of tibia on arrival. If this shows that the regenerate is consolidated further then we could consider removal of the whole of the frame and place her in a plaster.
We will keep you informed of progress.
With kind regards
Mr Peter Calder
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
